Strictly bosses ‘axed’ dance out of respect for Solihull frozen lake tragedy victims

“Strictly knew they could not air the dance in the light of the awful news from Solihull,” a source told The Sun.

“Naturally everyone on the show agreed and the decision was made not to air the performance.”

A spokesperson confirmed to the publication the dance was removed for “editorial reasons”. 

 has contacted the BBC for comment. 

They added: “In light of tragic news events, we took the decision not to broadcast the group dance on this week’s results show.”

It comes after three boys, aged eight, 10 and 11 died after falling through an icy lake in Solihull. 

A fourth boy, aged six, remains in hospital in critical condition following the incident which happened on Sunday afternoon.

The boys were taken to hospital after being pulled out of the water but police said three of them “could not be revived”.

Superintendent Richard Harris of West Midlands Police provided an update on the condition of the six-year-old on Monday.

Strictly’s Shirley Ballas criticised by pro dancer over ‘nasty’ feedback

Strictly Come Dancing saw the judges having to make one of the most difficult decisions following the semi-final dance-off.

Fleur East and Will Mellor were in the bottom two, with Shirley Ballas using her deciding vote to save Fleur.

The head judge has been criticised by a professional dancer for her comments, particularly towards actor Will.

He said during a press conference: “The other boy at the moment is still very poorly and we will keep you advised on his condition as it becomes clear to us.

“The families, as you can imagine, are absolutely devastated.

“Also, at this time of year, it is on the run-up to Christmas and so close to the event itself, which also adds to that tragedy.”

He said his officers have been doing their best to support the boys’ families.

He concluded: “I am sure you will understand that we are led by the families’ wishes as to how much information we can give out at the moment.”

Strictly fans were inevitably aware of the tragedy, but many did not realise why the professionals’ routine was not aired as part of the results show. 

Rhian Hughes tweeted on Monday: “So what happened to the pro dance in #Strictly? Didn’t they tease that Craig was gonna be in it?”

Thomas said: “What happened to the Pro Dance? #strictly.”

Lucy added: “Was anyone at #strictly last night? What happened to the pro dance with Craig?”

Charlie asked: “Where was the pro dance? Didn’t Tess say Craig was going to be involved with it tonight? #strictly.”

Will Mellor and Nancy Xu were eliminated during the latest results show, narrowly missing out on a place in next weekend’s final with Hamza Yassin, Helen Skelton, Molly Rainford and Fleur East.
