hit western drama returned with a climactic fifth season which saw John Dutton (played by Kevin Costner) in a powerful position. However, with Sarah Atwood’s (Dawn Olivieri) vague intentions, the actress hinted at John’s death.
When Yellowstone premiered in November, ranch owner John had some newfound power as he was sworn in as the governor of Montana.

While this was good news for the Dutton family, Market Equities CEO Caroline Warner (Jacki Weaver) was filled with rage.
She was in an ongoing battle with the family for a portion of their Yellowstone ranch, as it was the biggest ranch in the US, and her company wanted to build on it.
They had plans to build an airport and a city, however, John had continuously refused which resulted in a long-running and life-threatening battle.

“I told you to go after the daughter and now he’s governor, he will shut us down on day one.”
To which Ellis remarked: “Caroline, look at him [points at Jamie]. His father is the governor, he will be next, it should be the happiest day of his life so why isn’t he smiling?”

Realising this, Caroline demanded: “Get Sarah Atwood out here.”
It quickly became clear Sarah’s arrival was another ploy to take down the Dutton family from their weakest link, Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley).
She was able to use sex to entangle him in her web and secure a place in his life as a dangerous ally.
Although Sarah told Jamie there was no ulterior motive for their fling, she made it her mission to turn Jamie against his father and approve the plans for the airport.
… [REACTIONS] [REACTIONS]
This was made clear during the most recent episode, as the two cuddled, they watched the evening news which was praising John.

Jamie remarked: “I swear that man could fall in a pile of cow s**t and come up smelling like a rose. I admit he’s hard to beat in a fair fight.”
Sarah cryptically responded: “I don’t think we can let him show up to the fight, Jamie.”
Her ominous answer left fans concerned about John fate as they questioned whether she planned to kill him.
When quizzed about her character’s response and what it meant for John, the actress Dawn dodged the question, refusing to give any hints.
She answered: “I think it’s meant to mean a few things. [Co-creator] Taylor [Sheridan] loves writing these moments that could branch out into anything.
“It gets viewers engaged with cliffhangers just like the one you’re talking about.”
Dawn’s answer could only hint at a brutal end for John, with Jamie feeling like the black sheep of the family, he could bring down his father out of spite.
After all, Jamie did kill his biological father for John during the season four finale.
Yellowstone airs on Sundays on The Paramount Network and Mondays on Paramount Plus.
